It look like these are training trenches. They clearly have never had a shell fired into them.

I believe these are "tourist trenches" restored after the war. There is quite a bit of vegetation that has re-grown visible in the background. Cool photos though!

Close these are the preserved trenches in front of the Vimy memorial.

If I am not mistaken these are 'official' photos that made up part of the 'Vimy Pilgrimage' package when it was dedicated by EdVIII in 36.

A little trivia bit, That was the only 'official' event he took part in while King.

The photographs are from a souvenir set purchased by a Royal Engineer in late 1944 when he visited the memorial.I bought his medals, patches and about 50 photographs tracking his service from his Desert Rat days in Africa thru Italy, France,Belgium ,Holland and finally Berlin. The monument to the Canadians is a very striking memorial.

Correct. Post WW1 image of tourist prepared trenches. In fact, visit today and looks largely the same.
As for the monument, Canadian or not - athough I am, it is a breathtaking experience visiting the monument. I won't forget the experience. Highly recommended place to visit. If you like the German trenches there as well!

                The Durand group

If your interested in Vimy ridge, I thoroughly recommend the DVD's showing the work of the Durand Group.
The Group surveys and excavates the tunnels round the ridge.

Details of availible DVD's are here :

And a little about the group :
