1918 Knuckle knife, used by a Kiwi in the pacific

    Hello Chaps,

Thought I might throw something up for eye candy.

I got contacted by a Chap that was selling this on behalf of an old chap,

The blade belonged to this old chaps father, who served with the NewZealand 3rd Div in the pacific. so you can see it has had afew mods done to it, and also with abit of a camo job on it as well, take note the hilt has some paint still on it,

But it turned up the other day, and I tell you I was just over the moon with this bad boy! and fingers crossed, that I can get the rest of the grouping, as I found out the old chap still has the 2 uniforms issued to his father, as well as his other gear!

    Enjoy

    -R

Kiwi Ric, Is the blade marked "au lion"?......IF so, it's a French made WW1 vintage trench knife, issued out to the AEF in WW1......Very desirable!.....Congrats, Bodes

                  Hello Bodes,

Yes the blade is marked at the hilt end, AU etc,

I was under the belief these were used ww2 as well? I know us kiwis had our own alloy type Knuckle knife. but I also know we liked to trade, and wheel and deal, we got issued quite abit of US uniform items, and also the Fiji commandos "kiwi officers" were issued lots and lots of US gear,

With luck I can get the rest of the uniform items, and paper work to reseach the blade more I can see the scabard is made in such a way to fit a pattern 37 web belt, etc. but keen on any infomation on the AU 1918 knuckle knife maker etc

Kind regards and thanks for all the comments and help chaps!

                  -Ric

Ric, Since a lot of the American made "trench" knives didn't get issued out in WW1, many eventually found their way into WW2....Even though I believe they were banned, due to the type of wound they inflicted....Some were even given to WW2 soldiers by veterans of the first world war......Yours likely has some affiliation with a WW1 veteran as well......Bodes

Thanks for that Bodes, here is hoping I get the matching paper work, then I could look down the line eg, his father could be a ww1 service man of the likes, or a Kiwi who did a swap with someone from the AEF

                      the plot thickens

                      regards
