    Post War RHLI Mess Tunic

    Hi,

I am posting some pics of a nice post war (1954 dated) Royal Hamilton Light Infantry mess tunic. The tunic is named to a Lt. W A Parker. It comes with his mini medals attatched to the tunic, however there is no mini CVSM.

This tunic is even more significant to me as my girlfriends grandfather is a ww2 RHLI vet. He knew Bill Parker and told me a story about Bill taking a patrol out at night in the vicinity of Verrieres ridge in late July 1944. They were meant to go out and try to determine the position of German tanks in the area. Bill, in the pitch black, crawled right into a German tank with his patrol, he was under strict orders not to engage, so he turned his patrol around in silence and crawled all the way back to Canadian lines undetected. He has no other info on Bill as he was injured at Verrieres Ridge, but he thinks Bill made it through the war untouched and knew that he stayed on with the regiment post war. This is one of his favourite stories and I am pleased to own a tunic belonging to someone in his story.
