    Regimental sports medals

Hi Guys, Lez has just bought this one, via E bay, in fact, it came from the same group as the MTC AM badge I was asking about last week.

As you can see it features the ATS cap badge design on the obverse with the date and competition details and the AA Command formation sign on the reverse.

It got me wondering if any of you have similar Regimental sports medals to show?

    Cheers, Ade.

Here is the reverse of the medal.

2nd pattern AA, so that helps date it (can't remember the date the bows changed). Netball? Is this something to do with the Guards Brigade?

This is the only cWWII sports medal I've seen, is it "real" bronze?

Hi Leigh, some of the ATS Vets that Lez knows from her WRAC Association branch meetings still have their Sports medals. One lady had several for swimming.

The medal appears to be patinated brass.

        Cheers, Ade.

Interesting, I've only ever seen post-WWII sports medals, 'though entries in auction catalogues often list sports medals as part of medal groups. The fact that this one's of brass rather than bronze or "better" metal is a nice comment on austerity measures of the time.
