This coat was originally made for and used by the American Army. Things made as War Aid are marked WA on the label. The letter and four numbers which can be seen in at least two places is the standard American laundry mark. It is the first letter of the person's last name and the last four numbers of his serial number, it was put on just about everything he was issued. In this modified configuration it looks like an officer's short overcoat. Just from looking at the coat I see no reason to think it is anything but American but this is not to say that it could not have been acquired and used by a British soldier.
