    The US TL122C.

The earlier "A" version was brass bodied. The "B" was part brass, part plastic, whereas the "C" shown here was all plastic.

Hi Eric, all Officers would carry a compass. Some NCO's would as well. OR's would generally not carry one unless they were members of a special forces unit, such as a Parachute Pathfinder Company.

          Cheers, Ade.

I have only two. As it is something I have not chose to collect in quantity. But one of mine did come from a Vet. I will add a pic once I have taken one These knives are a subject in their right. I will try and borrow a few from friends to do a thread. There are a huge number of makers variants. There are some rare ones to look out for, such as the special SOE issue one.

Hi Eric, it is not fixed to the belt.

The lanyard (rope) is worn around the waist. The knife then is kept inside the trouser pocket.

                Cheers, Ade.

Hi Eric, I cannot read all the writing on the tin? Do you have a better pic?It is not one I have seen before. Looks like a tin of "Blanco" powder used to restore the colour of webbing. Certain types were made just to use on the respirator case.

                      Cheers, Ade.

hi Eric, yes, it is what I though. The powder was used to restore the colour of the webbing.

Nice tin I would buy one myself but he does not take "PayPal" and other methods of payment are too expensive. I do not trust cash in the post.

                          Cheers, Ade.

                              Great thread!

I also have my small and large packs filled with original contents.

Here are some period pics that I used to gather all the items...

                              Small Pack:

In the picture from left to right at the top.
                              gas cap
                              spare socks
                              mess tins
                              shaving gear
                              tin of emergency rations
                              cigarettes and chocolate
                              face net
                              toothbrush and washing kit
                              water sterilizing outfit
                              balaclava
                              spare boot laces
                              hairbrush
                              cutlery
and the kit is spread on a towel.

                              Entrenching Tool Carrier:

The entrenching tool carrier was also used as a sort of pack it was used to carry:
                              4"x2" cleaning rag for rifle
                              oil bottle
                              pull through
                              rifle cleaning brush
                              dubbing and dubbing brush
                              gauze
And if there was any room left, the mattock head.

Lovely display, Adrian! Ok if I 'borrow" the photos for a private file for future reference - with suitable attribution of course and definitely not for circulation?

I have some friends over here who do WWII re-enacting and I KNOW they won't have seen some of this stuff in the pristine condition yours are!
