    Help! What have we bought?

Hi Guys, we have just bought a small group of three peices of insignia to a lady who served in the MTTC and the ATS. The unknown item is bronze collar dog sized badge. It is the conventional MTC/MTTC design badge of the tyre and crossed spanners with "Pro Patria" motto. The unusual aspect of this badge is that it is lettered "MTC AM". Any ideas on the "AM"? Of course Air Ministry is the first thing that springs to mind. The maker is "JR Gaunt London".
Photo to follow in the morning

    Cheers, Ade.

Apart from Air Ministry... no. In fact, this is the sort of thing that we should be asking you!

Ok, "Pro Patria" means in Latin: "For the Fatherland"... Hope this helps.

              Cheers,
              Junior.

I've got to go along with Leigh on this one Ade. I can't think of many 'brooch pin' type badges that are worn in uniform, apart from Jock headdress badges.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies.

Hi Jim, the odd thing about Mechanised Transport (Training) Corps badges is all, including cap and collar, feature this broach pin fastener. I am, being an ex-military vehicle owner, very fond of this badge design.

We are leaning towards the Auxiliary member or association member theory.

                  Cheers, Ade.

Valuable info Ade, I have a Womens Legion badge that is brooch pin type, all other womens badges that I have are either slider or lugs. I mistakenly thought the pin type went out after WW1.

Hi Marc, I had not thought of that

I do know they still have their dies for most of their WW2 badges.

                        Anyone have a contact number?

                        Cheers, Ade.

I was informed this weekend that the AM is for Auxiliary Member, who can be male as well as female.
