    Royal Cyphers

Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you a picture of these three royal cyphers from the UK.

Edward VIII, George VI, and Elizabeth II.

Does anyone know if the Edward VIII insignia is considered to be rare? I have only seen this example so far, so I would like to hear from others about it.

Ed the VIII is not common by any means as I guess it would all depend on what the Cypher intended use or if it was made back in 36 or last week.

Provence is all important in a piece like this

I believe these cyphers were all for shoulder boards and epaulettes. They are the large-size ones, worn on each epaulette by ADCs.

No provenance, unfortunately, and I cannot tell from just looking at the insignia.

I'll post a photo of the backs and maybe somebody here could add more info.

Here is a picture of the reverse of the cyphers.

It appears as though the cyphers are made of silver and that there was some sort of gilt over them, but the GVIR and EVIIIR ones seem to have worn off.

Copper pins or lugs on the rear.

          Closer-up photos

For those so inclined to help me analyse these, here are some closer-up photos.

There appears to be a "P" engraved on the back of the crown on the GVIR cypher.

And the soldering of the copper lugs seems to have discoloured the metal on the EVIIIR one.
