    General Advice

Hi there folks, I am new to this forum but I was told by someon through EBAY that I would be able to get some honest advice on here as opposed to been conned by 'dodgy dealers'.

My situation is that I use to collect WW2 militaria when I was a youngster after being inspired by grandparents stories. In fact some of my stuff came directly from grandparents and great uncles, the rest from various dealers/antique shops. However life moves on and due to a soon to arrive baby and lack of storage I am getting rid of a lot of stuff. The problem is that I think some of the items I thought to be 'original' were not so and I do not want to sell on fakes to someone else. Also I really do not have an idea to the value of some items I could do with some direction.

I have done some research online and managed to successfully sell some bits and bobs but following are some items that I am either unsure of their authenticity or their value and any advice would be greatfully received. Also I am not sure to etiquette on the forum but following is a link to an online album of some of the items.

    Hi,
The helmet is a nice one, a MkII with a MkI liner, if selling on ebay they can go anywhere from £55- £85 or more. If the beret is correct then that will do well also, anywhere from £350- £450.
Hopefully others can help with the other stuff.

I agree about the MkII British helmet - condition, paint and liner all look good; nice early war piece. The compass is also an early date which sometimes seems to sell in the £50 range on eBay. The field telephone looks good but prices on these are difficult to guess.

The mess tin is not a German wartime model as far as I can see - low value, at a guess. The Zeltbahn looks good but if it has a visible makers stamp or date the price would go up - anywhere between £50 - £100 depending on condition, markings and buttons. The water bottle is incomplete but looks to be original parts.

The other items it is hard to say without better pictures.

      I hope this helps.

Surely not for a khaki beret?

Thanks for the info guys, I must say I was a little shocked (and excited) when the beret was valued so highly. It is in very good nick but I googled the SAS berets and they are much lighter in colour than mine.

Out of interest where would I find a date mark on the Zeltbahn, I have looked all over it and cant find one. Would I be right in thinking that seeing as there is patter on both sides it is WW2 issue? Also is the camo pattern called splinter? I have searhed loads in the interenet and that is the closest match in my opinion.

And yes the mess tin is one of the items I suspected I was conned with when I originally purchsed it. I am pretty certain now that it is is 1960's german army.

              Any more advice gratefully received

                Hi Guys,
I thought it was a commando beret not a GS beret.

The 1945 dated beret sell for less as the troops got a 1945 late war or after the war to wear going home. I agree with the price $50-75 US good shape and no pin. Maybe more with ebay.
