    Australian 1907 bayonet (comments please)

I purchased this Australian bayonet the other day for $10. I really didn't want it due to the poor condition, but the seller would have probably thrown it in the trash if he didn't sell it. I don't know anything about Australian bayonets and am hoping someone here could provide me some information on the this piece.

It is about 21 inches long, the blade is about 17 inches and has a blued blade. The wooden grips are worn and chipped and the blade is rusted. The ricasso, cross guard and pommel have markings which I have listed in my pics. There is no scabbard.

I'm looking for comments on the piece itself as well as an approximate value in its current condition. (a friend of mine has offered me $20 to buy it from me).

    Thanks.

    Sammy T.

Thanks for the info just. Looks like I have an early manufactured, proofed and inspected Lithgow bayonet. Do you have an opinion on how these traits affect the bayonet's collectability and value, particularly in it's present condition? Would you be able to offer a rough estimate on its approximate value? Thanks.

                G'Day Sammy,
If you put it on EBay Australia,i wouldnt be surprised if it went for around $100 at least.(Maybe)
P.S. i dont know about the shipping laws though

Hi 2/31st, I appreciate your input and advice. Do you really think this would fetch that kind of high price in it's current condition with no scabbard. Not that I doubt you or your knowledge, but is there a particular reason why you think this could sell for $100? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

It has a good chance of getting more than a $100 even in that condition. A lot of '07 collectors collect by year dates (like coins) and a Lithgow 1923 is a scarce date.

Wow. I didn't know that Alan. Like I said before, this is my first Australian piece and I don't have any experience with them at all. Maybe I'll hang on to this piece if it is on the scarce side. Thanks for your expertise and information. I really do appreciate it.

Another attractive feature would be the fact that it isn't a refurbished WW1 dated bayonet.
