Sorry to say, but this is not a military issue 'commando' dagger. The blade looks like a Fairbarn dagger but the handle is a common [civilian] style. I think I owned one as a teenager - the band of red round it near the pommel is pretty distinctive.

The authentic commando fightiung knives have a metal handle, cross-hatched for a better grip. This forum has lots of info. on them. Try searching for 'commando knife' or 'Fairburns'

It may well of been used in WW2 but if it was it was just a private purchase item not an issued one. This knives were produced long after WW2 and I think still are made in Sheffield. I have a fairly modern one which is the same except one of the edges of the blade is serrated.

If you want a Commando knife stick to the FS. Who knows when these were made??
Like it has been said, these are still made.
