Australian Canvas Pouch Era & Purpose?

Okay this is no great score but I cant identify it. Its military issue has the acceptance stamp, there was a date once but no longer visible. Curious as to its purpose and what era it belongs to. There is 2 small pockets on either side, can be worn via the strap or from the belt. Help me out.
    cheers Robert

Its a light respirator gas mask bag. It is probably WWII but I think these were used into the 1950's.

        Positive.
From what I see, I would put it in the late War Corner. Maybe given as Aid to other countries after the War like the Brit ones used in the danish Army into the 70's. I got some boxes, with Brit. Carriers and German WW2 Masks. All with an additional danish Stamp.

I agree with the others, it's a late war gas mask bag.

Yes indeed a UK gas mask bag, but I've seen these dated 1943 if memory serves me right so I would call these mid war pattern, not late war...
I have at least 5 of these. I'll need to check my dates,,,, Anyway many of these survived (with contents) because they were post war used by the Norwegians
I thought (or perhaps Danes?) who indeed added their issuance stamps and a Scandinavian language user manual.

Its nice to see it still has the metal hooks on the back, these were quite often removed for post-war scrap metal. Because I think this feature was removed after the war, I would guess this could date from the 1943 -1945 period.

I have some of these pouches as well. Also dated 1943 and unissued. I found them interesting since they have the LTD snap closure and some have buckles for the carry strap. The Canadian made one I have has the canvas pull type closure and metal rings for connecting the strap.

I don't have it on hand but I think the Mfr. is either M&H Ltd or M&H Co. There are lots of these at a shop in Calgary, Alberta...all unissued and I've been able to find OD green and Khaki colored ones there.

Oops, I lied. I have one of these on one of my mannequins. This one has the rings for the strap so it must be the OD ones that have the buckle. Same LTD snap closure though.

                  Manufacturer is M.H. & Co. ... I was close.

The Danes are the ones that removed the hooks, the gasmasks were used for the Danish Civil Defence after the war.

This type of gasmask was first made in 1942.
