Well Guys, that concludes our photos of this uniform group. I will keep you posted as and when we find more info about her.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this collection?

    Cheers, Ade & Lez.

Ade, what a lot of us dream of - finding a cache of original wartime uniforms like that

      Most excellent

7 skirts??? Did this woman know there was a war going on???

Once again, brilliant and I'm glad you got the gear and not the IWM...as it would be probably rotting in a damp, dark cellar somewhere. Very ignorant of them anyway.

      Thanks from Jack.

        Wow!! What a great collection.

Don't give it to the IWM though-they'd just keep one uniform and "de-access" the rest as money-makers.

Hi Guys, no fear of it going anywhere we never part with anything

It was not originally offered to the IWM, but to another National Musuem.

          Cheers, Ade.

              Super grouping Ade, museum quality!

Do you have a photo of this lady? What are her decorations and medals?

Hi, thank you for the comments.

Here is a website which contains details of her life and now includes some small photos:

                http://www.wherwell.net/html/lady_brecknock.html

Some of her decorations are mentioned in the link above. Her medal ribbons as shown on some of her tunics in our photos include:

                Order of St John
                1939 -45 Star
                France & Germany Star
                Defence Medal
War Medal 1939 1945 with MID bar
                Coronation medal 1937
                Coronation medal 1953
                Territorial Decoration
                League of Mercy medal
                US Bronze Star

                Cheers, Ade.

                    Hi Ade
Thanks for updating the pics and the photos of Lady Brecknock. Shame there's none of her during WW2. I'm so pleased you have the collection and it wasn't broken up.

                    All the best

                    Dave

Hi Ade, I am glad you got this grouping in my opinon if this had gone to a museum it would been put in boxs and stored in the back some where never to see the light of day.
A collection like that diserves to be display where people can see and read about this remarkable women.
That waist tunic would give Monty waist jacket a run for his money.
Cheers again on such a great collection, and thanks for sharing.

                        Geez Ade,

..that's one heck of a lot of skirts ! How are you going to explain this grouping to your wife - lol.

Seriously though, 1st rate collection that has to be the cream of the crop in this field. those battledress tunics are killer.

                        regards,

                        Konrad

Hi Dave, glad that you enjoyed seeing it all again

Hi COS, we actually took the whole collection out to an event last summer to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of VE Day and put it on public display for a day. It did create a lot of interest.

Hi Konrad, my wife Lez actually is a big time ATS collector so she has no problem with me buying womens uniforms Our only problem is we only have so much of a collecting budget, so who ever sees a nice item first, gets to buy it

                          Cheers, Ade.

I didnt see this earlier but what a collection
A nice example of an aristocrat in service. I would guess she probably stayed well away from action due to her status. I bet her shoes and handbags are made from crocodile skin
You never know this might only be part of a bigger collection.

                              Hi, thanks for the comments.

Again I was surprised to see this old thread brought back up.

I cannot recall now if I told the story before? But she took a "pleasure flight" over the front line near Nijmegen along with Mountbatten's wife. They nearly gor shot down by flak and had a discussion as to whether they would be treated as POW's or not!

                              Cheers, Ade.

                                Thanks for showing .
As a vintage clothing lover its great to see the tailor label story of this woman.
No mean feat in its self , she sure did shop ...up market.
