    Cap badges of the ATS

Hi Guys, I thought that I would show the different patterns of cap badges worn by women of the "Auxiliary Territorial Service". This was the WW2 British Womens "Army". Formed in 1938 and expanded greatly in WW2. For more info see our website:

    http://hometown.aol.co.uk/asummerof4...ollection.html

Here is the standard other ranks ATS cap badge in brass gliding metal. Several makers produced this badge as there are tiny difference in design when several badges are compared to one another. All are un-marked.

    Cheers, Ade.

Here is the Officers cap badge in bronze. Although original, this example is rather poor I feel. Other exhibit much better quaility.

Here is the Officers cap badge is glit. These badges at first glance appear the same as the other ranks badge, but these are finished with a glit wash. These were produced for wear on the private purchase coloured field servce cap.

Here is another Officers badge, this time in bullion wire and padded. Once again, designed for wear on the "FS" cap. Private purchase of course

This is a rare badge to find today. This particular example was obtained at a bargain price from E Bay only last year.

Not a variation on a badge, but here is the "teardrop" backing in ATS Corps colours which was worn on the late war ATS Beret or the man's "GS" cap which was sometimes used in leiu of the beret when supplies were not available. These backing are now faked! The fakes are very good indeed and need to be examined in hand to make sure of originality.

Very rare badge now. Just the same as the male counterpart, but here is an ATS cap complete with cap badge as worn by the ranks of "Controller" or "Senior Controller". These ranks were the equivilent of Colonel or Brigadier. Very few women made this rank. Sadly the cap is unnamed.
