    Near Mint 1944 Para Beret

    Hello chaps,

I've been quiet on here lately, now I've got a bit of leave I thought I'd take the time to share some bits I've picked up recently. This Beret I got today indirectly off the vet, it was his "spare" been kept untouched in his drawer for over 60 odd years. Pretty hard to upgrade condition wise

Sorry for the shoddy pics, my other camera is playing up, will post some better ones in a day or two.

      Hiya Jack

Yeah not bad mate, I bought this piece for next to nothing privately, it stands me at £10, I had my doubts orignially when I bought it. Should have done a quick search on Compton earlier

      Cheers
      Tom

It seems you missed the bit on my website about these.

The Para badge should have sounded alarm bell

                Hi Irv,

I'm far from an expert on para gear (some might say this is proven here ) but I saw it for a tenner and bought it, believing the old nobber who sold it to me which clouded my vision. We all mistakes but it was worth the punt as fortunes changed the next day when I bought rare version of the Meritious Service Medal the next day at a car boot sale.

                Cheers
                Tom

I'm sure you misunderstood, kept untouched in his drawer for 6 odd years not 60.

It sounds like you spent very little on this learning lesson. Don’t feel bad, look at this post-war “put together” beret, it’s very well done except for one tip off. This Canadian beret for sale has brass grommets. This particular maker only used stamped sheet metal grommets, NEVER BRASS! This is the second Canadian beret I’ve seen sold by this seller with brass grommets. That other one went for just over $1800 u.s.!

                          it's a 80' fake, often find in France .

France is a great place to buy fakes.
