    LRDG Badge Opinions please

Hey guys here are a couple of pics of a badge that has come up for sale here.....Can anyone shed any light on it ? It is being sold as a WW2 example.... I have my reservations but the seller assures it is good. I have heard of original examples which do exhibit some of the anomalys presented in this one but I am still unsure ..can anyone help me out here please....what do you think WW2 ?

IMO this badge you show Tim is a postwar converted reunion badge , it has been refiled, refinished to look like an original....but lacking many significant details.

Note the reunion badge I have attached which when comparing with the one you show there are many very similar details.

But the reality is the originals have way to many little details that cant be filed in . Often fakers will highly polish details away to conceal the lack of these details.

Thanks Greg, It seems to be the general consensus but I thought maybe there was a chance it was "the real deal" due to the sellers comments ......I thought maybe someone here may give it the nod as the seller stated (quote) "I have had it looked at by other well known collectors including others who have similar badges in their collections and they think it is OK "

The problem is many of these reunion badges have been modified to deceave and some better than others add the fact that some of these were done many years ago and that some will have taken on a nice patina and age. Even those that have a no' of genuine LRDG badges in there collection have been cought with these especially pre-internet when collectors could not see the variations...and being a rare and disirable badge not many will show up in the one town for collectors to share. Internet has most definately changed all that and thank God I say!

Are there more than one reunion badges? The first one shown has a concave scorpion, while Greg's example has a flat back. Or is Boyd's example the work of a Dremel-guru?

                    Hi Luc,

Most definately the work of a dremel IMO, but way over done. These hollows vary but not to this degree on any of the originals I have seen or owned

The badges of which an example is posted were made by Russell King Badges London in the 1970-ties for the British LRDG veteran association. They also come in white alloy.Source Kiwi Scorpions reference book by Brendan O' Carroll.

                      Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys......so at a guess these type of badges are about 1/3 the value he is asking and the safe bet is to run for cover on this one
