Commonwealth helmet ?

Hello

Have had this helmet around for a few years, Dated '42 but is it Canadian or English, something else ? Any info would be appreciated...all original etc ? Sorry for the photos, will try to get some better ones if needed.

Looks like a Brit lid with post-war liner...perhaps Belgian.

Hi!

Looking at the leather chinstrap, brown synthetic material liner and aluminium headband, it's a greek postwar one (late 40s-50s). The shell is indeed a wartime dated british one.

Thanks guys for the reply's. Agree, it is a Greek interior modified from the English shell based on the excellent links provided by Piotrek.

The Greek campaign of WWII is one of the most interesting yet overlooked.

Always found interesting the fact that the materials used on these interiors was of pretty good quality, given the state of greek industry just after the war. Like the M34/39 italian helmets, these shells were imported without liners, for those to be produced locally. Maybe a way of buying at lower prices?

No connection with ww2 though, apart from the british made shells, as these were used during the 1946-49 civil war and afterwards. These have been sold as surplus by the army over the past few years and their prices have risen considerably. Bought one for 3 euro six years ago and now they sell for 10 times the price, something that is based on dealers' speculations and not true desirability imo.

They are a nice representative piece, given that they are sold as greek post war ones and not to deceive. So, it pays out to keep in mind their features, to distinct them from british wartime MkIIs...
