My WW2 British Army Badges etc.

Bought these as a batch recently. Not my area of collecting but I took the plunge anyway. Seller didn't know anything about them.

Anything of interest here? I presume that the small compasses are Escape items?

    Regards,
    Bob.

A little bit of something for everyone there, but your not a millionaire yet I am afraid.

You've probably got your money back on the Royal Flying Corps button. Someone paid 20 for one of those the other day, so that needs listing today.

The better bits in my opinion are the Sherwood Rangers cap badge, 24th Lancers cap badge, sharpshooters beret badge and the 8th Hussars shoulder title.

RFC of course! I thought RFC buttons only had RFC printed in standard capitals and not in a form of a scroll. Well, I'll go to the foot of my stairs...

And there I was thinking that the RFC on this button related to perhaps the Royal Filing Corps or something!

I've only recently started collecting Royal Flying Corps items so I'll keep this one.

        Many thanks for your help

Would it be best to list the rest on the estand as a group or break them up? And if sold as a group, what should I realistically ask?

        Best Regards,
        Bob.

The Home Guard Badge is a neat item. A couple of regular Escape Compasses, worth about £10-£15 a piece IMO. Regards, Clive.

Should of gone to specsavers eh Rob Its an RTC - Royal Tank Corps which would fit since the majority of badges are cavalry. Worth a massive £1.50.

Its really up to you as to who and how you sell.

I went and it is RTC = Royal Tank Corps.

Thanks for the advice. Were these compasses issued only to the RAF? I read somewhere (maybe here) that escape compasses were contained in reverse screw thread buttons.

The compass is about half an inch across. Still works ok.

                    Regards,
                    Bob.

Here you go. Not so good in electric light though.

                          STOP PRESS:

I tested one of the buttons with a reverse turn thread. The button opened!

And a strong smell of oil. And out popped a compass

I suspect there's another due to conflicting weight measurements.

                          Living History!

This Brit stuff is cheaper than the vanquished German items. But Brit ingenuity triumphs!

                          Best Regards,
                          Bob.

Also included in my find are these two RAF Cap badges. Were they not maker marked?
