    Australian Digger hat?

    Hey i bought this a week ago is it a original digger cap.? Im not to good on commonwealth items.

    no it's not. It lacks a maker's mark on the liner and the puggaree is too skinny. I'd say this is a British hat.

      Oh. So it's a British slouch hat. Is it WWII made?

        All the ons I have are dated WW2 and have makers marks . This one is unmarked so it could be from anytime , the pugaree does look a bit small . I would say post war . Rob

            Looks like one of those repro's made for the tourists trade. The sweat band looks new.

              Is there any way of telling is a repo civilan made.? And maker or detail? Besides the band

                Go back up and read what chippler said. Pull the press stud apart and there will be manufacturers markings to the rear of the popper.

                  Plus the fact that no markings at all is practically unheard of for any military issue. I'd say the thickness of the felt isn't up to milspec. either: I would expect this hat to go shapeless PDQ if worn day in day out, especially in wet weather. I actually wear a digger style hat and have for years and until a local [cowboy boot] store started importing real Aussi hats I never found one that didn't turn into a 'lump' shape in a few months of wear - just not well enough made for continuous use. The style and materials in the sweat band also say 'commercial' to me.
