    Unidentified Order

Posted on behalf of John Paul LeBlanc. Does anyone have a clue as to what this is? It looks European. Any takers?

I did think Masonic at first (clue - ribbon), but that li'l ol' double-headed budgie with the nice hat made me think it might be something out of Mr Jackson's dressing up box - the Most Exalted & Irrepressible Order of the Sword-wielding Shytehawk. So Masonic it is then.

        Ta! xx

(Speaking of Daleks. Try doing that "Exterminate" thing in front of a cooling fan on full rpm. Go on... you know you want to. It always gets a laugh in bars... sometimes.)

Rick, I really do not have a bloody clue what you're on about. I think it's those saddles in the bedroom that've pushed you over the edge!

I think it's York Rite. The double-headed eagle in the US is chubbier, but the Brits take their Masonic association very, very seriously. Their Masonic jewels are the real deal and often @200-300 years old. Both rites are separate degrees one can take to the 32nd level of Master Masonry. They are named after their origins:Scottish rite=Scotland etc.. British army regimental lodges go back to the late 17th century (the Glorious Revolution) and many still have their old regalia. It might also be a Prince Hall lodge medal, but that would make it rarer than a lazy 2 RK and twice as valuable.
Ancient forces from Cthulu's halls in Arkham would also rize up and take you away for owning it.

There's a thought! If it's SILVER rather than recycled tuna fish cans, it ought to be festooned with those wondrously specific Albionic hallmarks, dating it to one exact year.

What's on the back? Go on... "They" are already gonna be mad at you for showing the Subscription Chairman's Bijoux Of Office to the unwashed--show us the reverse!

                    Hallmark

On the first line the letters RS, then the next line 4 symbols - a profiled lion, a frontal face mask, a K, and a womans head. I don't think it's from a UK manufacturer with these marks.

Make us a scan, then. A nice one. Not too big, not too small.

Ah! That would be too simple - and some people don't 'do' simple. I do not have it, so I can't scan it.

                          Hi Tony:

Actually, this is may indeed be British. Are you sure the "RS" is not "RG" (the G looking like the "G" in George VI's monogram)? If it's "RG", then it's the mark for Robert Garrard of London. The other marks are the town mark, the sterling mark, and a date letter. If you can get some scans, I can pinpoint the year for you...

                          Regards,
                          Eric
