    British medals

    John,
Check www.ebay.co.uk for "Medal Year Book" by Token Publishing. This is the No1 reference book on British medals and ribbons, including the most recent prices.
And yes, many British medals are being faked, especially the old ones from the 19th century, but even WW II stars are fakes sometimes.
A good source is a dealer named Gary Neate in Suffolk, very honest and realiable guy, highly recommended.

    Best

He is a good guy. I used to buy medals off his medal board at the long defunct Bear antiques mall in Newmarket. Oh how I miss those days.

Do you mean ribbon bars or medal groups? I know of no dedicated work on British & Commonwealth ribbon bars, because there is no real need for such material, as ribbon is easily available and ribbon bars easily concocted. Medal groups are also easily put together if the medals are unnamed, e.g. the WWII awards. It becomes harder (for the fraudster) when the medals are named, but this does go on. Welcome to the minefield!
