Opinions on SAS badge

Hey guys, I have posted pictures of this badge on various other forums and had opinions given to me from various experts but they are all conflicting :P so Im after some more help please....

Now... this badge is fixed to the shoulder of a New Zealand WW2 captains SD tunic and I am wondering if one... it is a real badge and not a reproduction and two... what period ?
