    WWI Leather Jacket

    Hello,

I've got this interesting leather jacket 10 years ago as I purchased the estate of a WWI german veteran.

I think this could be a WWI leather jerkins? with some minor modifications.

    can somebody confirm it?
how scarce are WWI leather jerkins?
can somebody identify the symbol on painted on the jacket (a red iron cross with a number).

No tags, no markings with exception of the above mentioned symbol.

    Best regards,

      Hi,

Yes, I think it looks like a British leather jerkin made into a jacket. Sorry I don't know anything about the cross. Interesting item but probably not worth a lot. A WW1 collector might be able to add more insight.

Even the leather buttonhole strengtheners are the same as a WW2 British leather jerkin dated 1944 that I have so I believe Des to be correct.Regards RMR
