RAMC Generals

Hoping for some help from those out there with officer's lists.

The general I am looking for is as follows:


RAMC or other medical branch

FULL general rank

Queen's crown (so possibly in the 1952-ish area)
Military cross
8th Army vet.
Italy service
NO WW I service

Any ideas? Not much to go on, but worth a shot.

That's what I thought. The collar tabs are the corect colour for medical.

Also, this chap saw Korea service (UN ribbon) and has the Order of St. John.

Okay, post WWII , I have 1952, 1970, and 1991 Army Lists. In none is there listed a full general (4 star USA equivalent) ex-RAMC. The highest ex-RAMC rank is Major General:

1952 Army List: MG A.J. Beveridge, OBE,MC, late RAMC

MG R.D. Cameron, CB,CBE,MC, late RAMC

MG F.R.H. Mollan,CBE,OBE,MC late RAMC

1970 Army List: MG J.A.D. Johnston,OBE,MC late RAMC

I believe he would be too old for the 1991 Army List. That's all I can offer for now; let me know if any more clues surface. Good Luck.

The official facing colour for the RAMC is dull cherry red, so I'm guessing RAMC is correct. Certainly. he could be in another Army List, but I am doubtful of any ex-RAMC officer attaining such a high rank as 'full" general.
Let's assume he was awarded the MC in WWII as a junior officer, as it was hardly ever awarded to an officer above major's rank. Let's then guess his age during the war as 22-30, or so. Another 20-25 years, at least, to reach general's rank, so, let's say circa 1965-1970. My semi-educated guess is that few, if any ex-RAMC officers were promoted higher than Maj. Gen.
Are you certain the rank is full general?
