    British Military Medal Research

Years ago I picked up a British Military Medal with the following engraving on the rim:

    112226 - SJI : E.H.BROWN . 'L' SPEC. Coy R.E.

How can I research this to find out what this fellow did for this medal???

      Mm

Does it have George V on the front and say "For Bravery in the field" on the reverse?

His name was Ernest Henry Brown. He was a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers during World War 1. His medal index card is available through the National Archives UK.

I will take some photos and post them for you.

BTW, what does 'L' SPEC. mean?

            L spec

There were special companys of the Royal Engineers in the Great War.
They were designated by the letters A-Q. I believe they dealt with gas.
It sounds like you have a great medal.
            Regards,
            Paul
