Question about British Paratrooper helmet

I was about to buy what I thought was a WW2 Brit. Paratrooper helmet. It appeared to be WW vintage, khaki straps, black deteriorating foam, In every respect it had the appearance of an old helmet. I know this is a stupid question but the leather inner headband had a size of seven, a "V" and 1965. Is that the date?

The V doesn't ring a bell. I don't suppose you have a picture? Could it be a shield shaped stamp around the size?
