Compass prismatic MK III - opinions needed

Hello folks...a friend of mine would like to know more about that compass prismatic he found a while back at a military show....seems to me that someone scratched away the date of production but we found on the web a shot of a similar one produced in 1944 and numbered 308801....

opinions and comments would be glad...

Nice one.
As you can see it is a MKIII
And there is a last number visible of the date.
A 4.
Could be a early 1944 one.
It is a original one.
Pretty sure of that.
To bad that all the original paint is gone.

Good one. I wasn't sure when the Mark 111 first came out so I was a bit sceptical about the 1942 date. Now I'm sorry I didn't get the second one on sale - same maker and date with most of the black paint but missing the Broad Arrow!!
