Pin back para wing in cloth - more info?

    Hey guys,

I recently picked up this pin back para wing in cloth. As some of you might know, my collection centers around German TR items and this was a deviation. I liked this piece and decided to go ahead. It came a few days ago.

Being relatively new to this area, could someone provide some info on this para wing? thank you....

    some questions...
which units were issued this badge...
    what other variations were there?
were these mostly sewn on patches or pin backs were common?

    Thank you.

    Cheers,
    Mil

1 they were issued to a qualified para serving in a parachute unit.
2 there are a huge number of variations.
3 sew on, but as the Saint points out on khaki drill uniforms they were often customised with a pin back.

            guys, thanks for the input.
these never had any markings or labels on the reverse did they?

how much would the value of these be?

Labels no. Markings, well I once owned an army flying badge that had the tailor's price written on the back and I suppose you could find para wings with a handwritten price too. Otherwise I'd say you will find no markings.

The value would be 50-70 euros; more if it was an Indian made wing which it isn't.

                Thanks guys.

                I have another question:

Do the pin backs have a higher value or a sewn type commands a higher value, and of the 2, which is more desirable / or scarce?

                thank you.

As a rule of thumb, personal viewpoint only, I rate and value "pin-backs" higher, however this much depends on the pattern of Wing, especially if unusual or uncommon. Other collectors may well have a very different opinion. Regards, Clive.

Clive, this was what i thought so as well - that pin backs should command a higher value.

As for the pattern as shown in the above photos, is this of a particular variant familiar to you?

                      thanks,
                      Mil

Looks a fairly regular pattern to me, I do not see anything unusual about it. Regards, Clive.

Without needle. Or is this one different (not British)?

                              That's a post-war Belgium example Rudolf.
