I am no expert on British bush hats but the hat does seem from WW2 (judging by the airvent colour) but I think someone just went and slapped on a Royal Navy shoulder rocker that doesn't belong on there.

Hat looks good. Hat and patch together -- maybe. Could be for a shore unit; you see these style caps for RAF and RAAF a lot, so it is quite conceivable that the RN would have used these as well.

the RAAF never had shoulder rockers on their slouch hats. They had either the RAAF badge on the upturned brim or at the front of the hat.

I have never seen a slouch hat with a shoulder rocker on it. Well, not an Australian one anyway. I am not sure about British hats.

I really don't think it is out of the question for a Royal Navy sailor serving in the Far East. Possibly from a shore support unit?
I have seen WW2 Royal Australian Navy used slouch hats, generally officers with the Officers embroidered hat badge sewn to the front of the pugaree.
Considering that British wore cloth unit badges to the turn up of their hats, I think this one has potential.

When the sweatband is not dated, look under the puragee. there it's often dated and has a broad arrow (if it's also got an "D" stamp it's Australian).

During the Malaysian insurgency the Royal Navy men took part in exchanges with the army, Many acting as radio operators.

My own personal opinion is that this hat is circa WW2 and relates to Royal Navy landing personnel and equipment in the Pacific.

The Royal Navy also manned boats on the Irrawaddy river in Burma during WW2.
