    Very interesting.
I hope this goes on display at the National Maritime Museum or the Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth, as it is an artifact of national importance.
    Regards,
    Ray.

      Absolutely Incredible piece!

This sort of thing Is what collecting Is all about, sort of knocks yer fibre rim para helmets Into a cocked hat, excuse the pun.

Reserve would be thought to be sensible but I would be suprised If this didn't double or treble reserve. Indeed, If the right people are In the room you could probably put another zero on the end.

If that twat jacksons glove made 35K this would be the bargain of the century at 15.

      Yours, Guy.

        Hello Guy,

        thought you would appreciate it.

It does make you pause with its sheer national importance when you see it.

I too suspect the final price will be somewhat higher, but it does put the SS smock/helmet/tunic lunacy in clear sharp perspective does it not.

A truly historical item. I agree the estimate is low.

          Cheers, Ade.

Amazing piece of history, I would expect it to make allot more than the estimate for sure, as there will be World wide interest in this piece!

              Absolutely Patrick,

how can a couple of pieces of mass produced, 60 year old camouflage be worth the same as a historical artefact such as this.

In truth It belongs In a museum; as another poster points out there will be International Interest In this so I'm hoping It stays here.

              Yours, Guy.

A great piece of history. Thanks for sharing.

VCs sell well in the 6-digits frame (GBP), so like you, I cannot understand this low estimate.

I know that French National Museums have a right over private bidders for items of historical importance, does the same right exist in UK ?

                  I

I hope this isn't a reference to General "Stonewall" Jackson !

I can't imagine how they came up with such a low estimate. This flag was flying at Nelsons last battle! Trafalgar itself was the battle that secured British naval supremacy for a 100 years! Simply amazing and many thanks for sharing.

                      Cheers

                          Reserve

Hi,The reserve is typical of Auctioneers the Country over, this is called "A come and get me reserve",if they posted it at double or treble that, no-one would turn up and expect getting a bargain, just as has happened here, everyone expects a bargain when they turn up,then get caught up in the bidding war and eventually it will find its price in the room and someone will be the lucky owner. What I hope is that the Big Museums in the UK turn out as one and just get it for the Country.
                          Regards,Ivan.

I wonder if there is actualy any solid proof of the flags origine. For now it sounds similar to one of the "my grandfather got this in Hitlers bunker" stories.

If the provenance is proved I wouldn't be surprised if it went for a lot more, although as for it being the last flag I'm not sure, I think they showed one similar on a documentory about HMS Victory, larger and with holes from canon balls through it, not sure which battles it was flown at though, I'll see if I can find a link.
