    British Major General's Tunic

    Hi all,

Have had this one since I started collecting about 9 years ago. It was one of my first militaria purchases, and I seem to recall that I picked it up on an online auction. Looks like a post WW1 major general's tunic, though I do not know too much about these, so would welcome any thoughts as to authenticity, or when it may have been made, or upgraded (looks like the tunic had a previous rank on it at one point or another). Unfortunately I cannot find a name on it, and there is no tailor label. It also came with a Sam Browne belt with what looks like a sword hanger (not sure on the technical term!). I am no expert on the insignia or buttons, or british uniforms in general - all I really know is what the medal ribbons are... so... have at her folks!

    Cheers,

    BC

Looks like your General was at some point a Colonel of Royal Engineers (buttons). Colonel is the only Field Officer with 3 badges in line on the shoulder straps, which would explain the traces.

I am not an expert on medals, but ribbons include Boer War and WW1.
