I met a guy last weekend who was telling me about a Lee Enfield rifle he uses for hunting. These are still quite common around here. He sent me a couple of pictures which I hope someone will be able to use to ID this rifle. Is it a MKIII? Which war would this be from? He thought WW1 because it has 1916 stamped on it, but it doesn't look like a WW1 Enfeild to me, but I'm no expert.

It is a No.3 Mk.I that has been "sporterized" as they say. No.3 full wood stocks can still be found...not sure about the hardware.Comment

I believe Mk1rceme meant to say that this rifle is a No1 Mk III.....
Your rifle appears to be dated 1916 but as the photo is dark I can not be certain. It would have been sporterized sometime post war when it was sold as surplus.Comment

at least it has the unit disk still in the buttstock. You could salvage that and use it on a replacement stock and perhaps end up with a very nice rifle.Comment
