I researched the regiment. Just refer to me now as a very stupid Canadian.

Don't feel bad! When the regiment hit the beaches of France, many Frenchmen wondered why there was a "Stove Regiment", that apparently being the translation in "French French" of their title!

For those of you not lucky enough to be Canadian - Quebec French is essentially the result of isolating a bunch of (mostly peasant) colonists from the mother country and mother tongue for 300 years. News items and movies from La Belle Province are shown with subtitles on French TV. And, BTW, the 'Chaudiere' is a [U]river[U] in Quebec.
