    Mortar MKII 2" Relic Found

    Good day to all,

i recently found this, inside a creek.

Your thoughts, and if anyone has pictures of it please be kind to post it.
As i 'll start restoration shortly.

I made a first search but i found very few things for the family of the 2" mortars..

    Thank you!!

Its got the early infantry base plate which you normally associate with the 39 - 40 BEF time period. Also nice to see its got its early sights too!

After this the base plate was replaced with a small spade and the complicated sight was replaced with a white painted line down the tube and it was fired and corrected for effect!

Great find. Here's a good picture of one being used.

Private R.L. Randolf of the 1st Battailon, the Canadian Scottish Regiment, sits in a trench with a two-inch mortar. France, 12 June 1944.

Considering the regiment and the date, this picture was taken in either Putot en Bessin or Cussy.

Nice and interesting find. You checked to make sure there wasn't a round still up the spout right?
