        $!

I'm shocked by the price on the SA helmet with net. This must be a record.

The original liners on the South African helmets had "Jager-Rand" stamped on the black band on the interior dome.

It's a puzzle why the first SA helmet shown has a British liner. This may have been done by a collector.

        Cheers,

        Mark D.

Hi Mark, i guess you were referring to my helmet? I'm just trying to pick up the pieces of the puzzle as i don't know much about these helmets

Btw, mine was bought in Denmark on a Danish auction.

              Hello Peters,

Your chin strap does look like an original South African made example, almost definitely original to the helmet. The material looks correct and your buckle is also grey and rounded instead of the square brass or black-painted British buckles.

On a related topic, £547.00 for that eBay lid is absolutely crazy! I know one or two bidders sometimes get carried away but this is ridiculous. Only 2 years ago I picked up 3 SA helmets here in Germany and all for Euro 40 - 60. Even one I sold last year on UK eBay only made about £50. I can't believe the early date and net of this one have added that much value...........

I have a helmet that seems to match the SA one perfectly but the liner is very different and has a large felt oval with for rivets. Is this an Isreali liner?

Rob, the Danish army used US gear from 1946 to about 1990 and the civil defense used the regular Danish M23 helmet and later they had US helmets as well.

So to summon up on tubist´s review, this is an original South African made British helmet (does it have a name like the mkII?) with original straps, that had the early liner replaced with the late war liner. Does that sound about right?

                      Peter,

Just call it a Mk II SA made helmet with British liner. Simple is best!

Leibermuster - what you seem to have is the standard SA liner, although I have seen some British helmets used in the Middle East (maybe Israel?) with similar liners. A photo would make it easy to tell.

                          Hi Guys,

Heres my SA helmet, was the first helmet I ever bought. It is repainted brown/green on the outside, but you can see the original tan paint on the inside, I have included a pic of the liner and markings as well.

                          Ritchie.
