    Hiya Lee,

I've seen this before. To make the adjustment of straps easier, I believe!

    Thanks

Interesting helmet, Lee. Is it Guy's old helmet ?
Looks like a fibre-rim with one of the odd hexagonal early helmet nets. Can we see more please ?

      Regards,
      Steve

            This

I think this is one of Guy's ...

Was it the infamous one that some chap was wearing on a motorbike in Oosterbeek a few years back ??
The owner then had cut the liner to make the helmet fit ..

              Yeah, that's the boy!

I've been lucky enough to own this. It Is an amazing piece that was modified at the time to as Jack says, make adjustments easier but also to increase the size. this Is quite a common modifiacation to see on period helmets.

It was purchased literaly, off the head of a motorcyclist, In 1973 and has a wonderful provenance. It remained In a local collection until 2003 when I was lucky enough to buy It. I'm a little sad to see that It Is probably for sale on a web site as It was promised back to me should It ever be sold. I would be very Interesterd to know how much It Is up for.

Whoever ends up with It all I can say Is you will not be disapointed, and please If you get rid of It again bear me In mind.

              Best Regards, Guy.
