Anti-Gas armband.

Hi Guys, I thought that I would share these pics with you of a rare item. This is the British anti-gas armband. These were issued throughout WW2 by the British Army and were also used by the US Army. These can be seen in the "Band of Brothers" series in the D-Day episode I think? The armband is made from a chemical impregnated paper. In the presence of war gases the armband would change colour warning the soldiers of a gas attack. These armbands are now rare to find. I was lucky to find three of these in a British respirator case. I have seen these sell for up to £75 each.

Very nice find! Congratulations! You will note in photos from the Battle of the Bulge, that you will still find Americans wearing these brassards, even in the snow!

The price you mentioned is correct. I know some dealers who are selling them for 100£ !!!

As I look at the brassard, I can't help but notice the deep red color that yours is showing. Of course, that was the color that they were supposed to turn if they came in contact with a chemical gas. Any idea why they may have turned?

Ade, I think the fact yours is dated 1940 makes it quite unusual and rare. All the ones I`ve seen have always been 44 dated.
