    Sword opinion

    Hello friends.

I got this Wilkinson Sword few days ago as a gift. It was found in garage here in Iceland.
The story I got when I asked where it comes from, I was told that when the Bitish army occupied Iceland 10th of May 1940.
Some British officer give this sword to some Icelandic guy.
I have no idea when or by who, but I know the British troops left Iceland summer 1945.

The other thing I have no clue about this sword, what kind of a officer rank, what time and division this kind of sword belong to.
The blade itself is 71 cm long.
    All info is welcomed, thanks.

    Hlynur

It does appear, from the Wilkinson marks, to be British, but it's not an officer's sword and it's quite a bit older than WWII. Looks naval and from the 1800's, based on the workmanship and the style. The scabbard looks like a lot of 19th Century bayonet scabbards: the shape and the way the tip is attached with a wire. The style of "bowl" handguard also loks like some of the early 19th Century naval cutlasses.

So, I'm guseeing its Royal Navy from the 1800s some time. Maybe some of the blade experts in the group can be more exact.

Forgot to mention that the handgrips - black leather with that pattern of steel rivets is very like the handles of Martinit and Snider bayonets, also late 19th century weapons.

1900 pattern British Naval cutlass. 1900 dated and made by Wilkinson!

                            Nice

yeah Jack, I notice the "´/00" for 1900, thx for that info.

But do you guys know how much value this sword could be?

I´m not going to sell it btw
