    9 Para Battalion

    Like to share with you some more of my Para collection:
    The Soldier was a member of C Coy,He was one of the few who made the attack on Merville and survived without a scratch. His last combat jump was the Rhine.

      1980's medal issue slip, no fibre issue WW2 tags? No doubt the GSM will redeem this grouping.

          Regimental number indicates enlistment in the Essex Regiment.

            All

            All Para's in WW2 were volunteers from their initial regiment. You could not join the Parachute regiment straight from civvy street.

              Thats correct Yellow 9 Para was formed initially by volunteers from the 10th Essex.

                Does it say this on the last page of the soldiers release book?

                Has taken part in all three operations on the Continent with 6 Airborne Divn. Since coming to Palestine (a year ago) he has been employed in the Regt. Police where he has proved himself excellent. A smart & efficient soldier
                I saw an almost identical group minus belt, tags, large photograph was dated Sept 1945 sell at DNW for £140 in March 2007 DNW sale. There was also a photograph album with that.
