is this a WWII British Royal Navy MKII helmet?

    Description

This is a WW2 British Royal Navy helmet. These helmets were issued to ship crews to be worn during combat. It was common practice for governments to issue grey painted infantry helmets for their naval personel. It seems the helmet left the factory kakhi and then painted grey at the navy. The helmet is in good condition. There are some random spots were the paint has flaked. The liner is in very good condition, I would say unused. There is one spot where the previous owner removed paint to reveal a 1943 date. the web chin strap is also unused.

the liner looks unusual like it might be some type of post war used helmet?

also notice it has a raw edge, no seam around the brim? could it be Australian?

IMHO the shell appears to be an Aussie one as it is a raw edge. The paint, liner and chin strap all appear post war to me. Certainly one I would pass on.

I agree, it's probably a post war civil defense helmet

the liner looks like it was added later and reissued for CD

      I passed on this one

        Helmet

This is interesting as Australian helmets are not dated! There also appears to be more numbers or letters under the paint to the left of the 1943 date maybe a makers name or a set of initials that would help identify it? The liner is a bit of a mystery though. Roy

New Zealand made their own raw-edge Mk.II's. They date stamped them I believe.

            Helmet

Sorry but NZ MKII helmets were made in Australia and assembled in NZ.

However in early 1942 they did make civil defence helmets.

This helmet was not made in NZ. but the UK.

The liner is killing me I'm sure I've seen it in a book somewhere.
