Opinions please about this stunning para helmet with "parachute decal"

Hi

I can buy a very special helmet which I have never seen before.
The following story is true and not a ferry tale.

This helmet was bought by a guy I know. He bought it from another guy who had it from his father who found it in WW2 near Arnhem.
When my friend bought it he saw it was repainted. When he peeled of the paint he alsmost fell of his chair because two very interestings things came up.
On the left side a parachute with on each side a kind of wing and at the bottom the number 16.
On the front a blue square with in the middle the letters MP. On each of the square a red stripe which goes a bit arround the helmet. It sounds like a military police helmet but I don't know if this is possible in combinations with the parachute and wing.
I don't know the price yet but I think it won't be cheap so I don't know if I can afford it.

One more question.

What would be the value of this helmet ??

It was sanded before the MP and wings were painted on, note the complete absence of textured finish. It is impossible to say when this was done so that brings the value down. Even more the fact that part of the sorbo has perished.

I think a most prudent fact would be to buy the helmet not the story!

These sort of painted wings are seen on some wartime photos but weather this is wartime done I've no idea, as Luc mentioned this was painted on a smooth shell normally any sort of markings logic would say are found on top of textured paint.

I really do think that you've priced this far too high, especially considering the fact that it is no longer an untouched helmet. The uncovering of the paint has caused far too much damage as far as I'm concerned. This really has decreased the attractiveness of it to most collectors.

A very nice helmet if it hadn't of been overpainted, I think too much damage has been done removing the paint, probably done in a rush.
