this came from a relative, said it was a leather vest for wearing over uniform in a tank, any ideas.

It is a regular leather jerkin, worn by almost every arm of service. They were popular items.

Re jerkin

Trying to put some gear together as the aussie forces in the western desert
had a huge impact but little representation in the uk living history side of things
