The soldier who bought this in london on his way thru was killed in the hurtgen forest. He was in the bloody bucket division. Maybe the snap was an option. This one is a brass subdued handle.

This type of scabbard has a backing plate on the frog and an elastic retaining strap.

Yeh now that you mention it i can see where it used to be, and even has a dark spot on the leather where it went across the top, good point britpc . The widow says he bought it at the wilkinson factory while in london waiting to be shipped over.
