    RAF uniform question

    Hi:

I have an RAF service dress that has seen quite a bit of use. Would like to know how common it was for aircrew to wear the service dress whilst in flight, instead of a battledress.

    Thanks.

ALLWAYS during the early stage in the war, especially during the BoB. From 1941 the BD came in use but then also the service tunic was in use.
From 1942 on the service dress was practically vanished for flight.
Here is one of my BoB mannequins. Service tunic and Irvine jacket (typical style for this 1940 period)

        .

Thanks. My tunic saw service in Africa, so possibly could have been worn in flight early war. Who knows.
