      Thanks Chris.

The hat was from a soldier that saw action in Afrika .
That`s wy i thougt it was a Britisch insigne.
But can it be a Aussie insigne??

the insignia is either South African (which I am leaning toward) or British. I reckon it's South African... it's definitely not Australian insignia. The hat is definitely made in Australia, which doesn't surprise me as we did supply hats and uniforms to other commonwealth nations during WW2.

          Ok thanks again Chris.

Somone told me it was a scout insigne! ,but when i read your reply then it is a ww2 badge from the South African or indeed a Britisch insigne .

Steven ,all badged and dated WW2 slouch hats are quite rare ,the most prized are from those divisions who fought close quarter against the Japanese ,the best place to sell it is English ebay or sell it to me for £70 .Rob

I agree - I think it may be one of the king's African riflr battalions, which used something that looked like Arabic letters to distinguish one battalion from another. I'll see if I can find the info. too. Very nice item indeed!

%th Battalion, the King's African Rifles

An excellent picture of a felt hat worn by an officer of the 5th (Kenya) Battalion, KAR.
Patch introduced around 1930 and worn up to disbandment in 1963.
Badge is the arabic numeral 5.
