    Polish Para Helmet

If any of the members are tracking this helmet, ... forget it !! .. it is complete garbage !

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=020

And this one isn't even a para helmet !!

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-ORIG-POLI...d=p3911.c0.m14

And this sidecap isn't sporting Polish buttons, and the badge is a Breast Badge not a cap badge !

Just about all the value of the DR helmet has been lost by a very amateur attempt at enhancing it !

            Hello Gary,

            and thanks for posting that.

The cap badge on the forage cap is a mystery badge.... They are around, most often in brass, but examples in white metal have shown up.

There are also known examples without lugs, but with an attached bit of metal for display on a desk.

They are seemingly wartime manufacture, but to my knowledge, no one has ever seen this badge worn in period photographs.

Of course, any bit of information is welcomed.....

Pity that the helmets are "duff" - I'm sure that the dealer will soon be offering one of the original sabers carried by Polish Parachute Officers in combat.... the famous 36 inch Sykes/Fairburn Polish Commando saber - the one with the smooth aluminum grip and the special rubber scabbard to prevent injuries during parachute jumps!

GFC Thanks for the follow up note on the mystery badge ..

I seen it attributed as a "General Staff" badge .. but as you say it does not really seem to have any basis ...

George correctly names them as the "mystery" badges...not much is known about them..they were not of any unit, and certainly not worn by the Polish General Staff in London as described in Mr. Wesolowskis book. They keep turning up everywhere which maybe because a firm in the UK has the dies and maybe they make a new batch every now and then. They might have had something to do with Polish welfare organizations helping after the war.

                  another thing...
as George says, there is no indication of any soldier wearing this badge
                  the mystery continues..

.. if this chap qualified for his para wing, .. why isn't there at least the taylored hole above the LH breast pocket to take the badge ?

Check out the other items ...

                        why indeed?
I am sure if you asked the seller there would be a very logical and clear explanation..
and wouldnt the tunic look super with one of those helmets!

as the prices climb..so does peoples innovation and imagination
