The Possibility of a RAF solid silver Pathfinder badge

I have been told by several dealers that the 'flying O" observer half wing in silver was in fact worn by Observers on mess dress uniform. Do you believe this is true or is just something dealers say to make more money out of sweet heart jewellery?

If this is true true then does that not rule out the possibility that there may be such a thing as a solid silver Pathfinder badge worn on the mess dress uniform as well?

    Thanks for reading.

let us just say there were such an item cast in solid silver, with a rear horizontal pin fixing, to the exact dimensions of an original brass badge............it may look something like this?

Is there any reference to such a piece?

I'm pretty sure that all such pieces were "private purchase" items, some considered sweetheart items, but all manufactured by jewellers. Yes some Observers did wear a silver "flying O" on their mess dress, as some pilots wore sterling wings on their mess dress. It is possible that this would be a pathfinder wing, but since they were indeed a private purchase piece, it would be unofficial and classed as a "sweetheart" piece.
It could also be a "Pathfinder's Club Pin" mentioned in "Canadian Flying Services Emblems & Insignia 1914 -1984" by Bill Hampson....I'll have to dig out my copy to verify this though
In any case, a nice piece indeed! Wouldn't mind seeing more shots of it.
This is just my humble opinion(s).
