Only joking, quite crudely done by hand, which I think is a good sign, after all if you and Pte. Smith had been put on punishment and got ordered to help to QM bloke paint the unit signs on 800 lids I dont think you would pay too much attention to neat lines. Very nice helmet, similar to my later type, 1943 dated
