Hi Eric, my knowledge about Canadian items is limited. But a lanyard would not be fastened to a belt.

The lanyard would be looped around the shoulder and one end either placed in the pocket or fastened to the pocket button.

      Cheers, Ade.

Left shoulder and tucked into the pocket.

Officers and NCOs should have a whistle, OR and pvts it was clipped into the button hole.

          They still wear it.

On active service during WW2 it was quite common when wearing a revolver to loop the lanyard around the back of the belt rather than around the shoulder.

Hi John, was that just done more with a plain khaki lanyard? Never heard of it done with a fancy coloured one before.

                Cheers, Ade.

Same with the engineers with the jacknife lanyard, total pain and will snag
just about everything it can when on the shoulder.

Purely on a practical level it was better off not worn, chuck the pistol it was practically worthless and marked you as an officer.

O,R uniform jacket , badges off and carry a rifle , the lads know who you are anyway.

Ade,mostly they were Khaki but once I had as nice maroon one don't know which regiment but I liked the colour.
Tim a rifle was a bit of a nuisance in an armoured car.
