CEF Caps and collars

Greetings forum members! I've got a wealth of World War 1 C.E.F Cap badges and collar badges.....EM and Officer styles. Would anyone know where one would find an accurate list of current market values? I'd post them here, but there's simply too many! I acquired a whole collection a while back, and the original owner (who collected RCAF) collected CEF caps and collars on the side. I have decided to begin to log them into my database with descriptions and values. Where should I begin to look?

there is no up to date book on CEF VALUES the only one out there is the charltons which is now 9 years out and actually never was that good. The best guide today is ebay watching if you have time but that only covers the common ones. I could help I do a consulting service for dealers on line. Is your collection complete with all 260 numbers or just a large collection ?

Mike,

I would simply peruse online dealers' lists and ebay to get an idea. Many dealers ask mad amounts and have badges sit on their lists for ages. So, to be realistic I would round their number down, using it as a rough start point.

The commons are relatively easy to value, it's the rarer and oddball badges that 1) go for bigger money; and 2) are significantly more difficult to assign an exact "value".

I`d like to see some of the badges..............could you please post photos of all the badges with WW1 tanks in the design. I always like looking at those if the opportunity arises. The 1st canadian Tank Battalion is a good badge to have. Thank mate.

Well I count around 71 or 72 regiments including some really neat/unique ones, like I have a cap badge for the Canadian Army Cyclist Corps, and there's an Other Ranks cap badge for either #259 or #260 Siberian Expedition.
I've compiled a list that I will compose here tomorrow, but I Went back and counted each entry, totalling 84 entries, most of which are cap and collar sets. I'm glad you guys are eager to help, because i know absolutely squat about the CEF....I'm just RAF/RCAF. But I do nee a value for insurance on my collection!
After all is said and done, anyone wanting to see certain items may PM their requests.

2nd battn all had white metal overlay badges as did many others and many had only superior strikings. Very hard to do justice with this listing without pics.

The #2 Bttn Cap is the "Semper Paratus" variety in sterling silver, which I'm sure qualifies it as officer grade?

My intention is not to inflate the value of the collection, please don't get me wrong. I've simply listed these as they have been listed to me. I intend to place a collector's value on these for insurance, not to sell.

I was also under the assumption from my internet research that a "superior striking in pickled or browning copper" denoted officer rank for those Bttns that did not have silver for Officers? I've done my research on badge construction, I just don't have the knowlege of collector value.
If it comes down to me having to photograph and post 72 battallions worth of badges, I guess I will, but it seems an awful lot

Show us some eye candy. Take photo's in groups of 10. Then the pro's can ask for details....and the rest of us can sit back and enjoy....now how hard is that.

Hi pickled or browning copper in no way denotes officer by way of superior strike my meaning implys higher details possibly molded flat back heavy construction, then your obvious sterling pieces. Some units such as the PPCLI never had an official officer hat badge throughout the war only collars and the style of uniform that stood them apart.
